Dullness, Dry & Texture · Tried & tested
The mistake I made in my forties that cost me ten years of good skin.
I'm 47. My skin was dry, rough and flat in every photo. This is my honest twelve-week review of the salmon DNA everyone's posting about — including the month where I was sure I'd wasted the money.

Week 0
Week 12
My own photos. Unretouched. I'm not a dermatologist and this is one person's experience — yours may differ.
The thing I noticed first wasn't how my skin looked. It was how it felt. A fine, dry roughness that never fully went away, worst along the jaw and around my nose. And skin that feels like that photographs flat. No lines you could point to, no redness, nothing a dermatologist would call a problem. Just a face that absorbed light instead of returning any.
Did Salmon DNA actually work?
Then I did the boring thing and took a photo every Sunday in the same light.
Week 1–2
Nothing to see — my patience is being tested
The texture is silky and soft. No stinging, no purge, no peeling at all. The only thing I noticed was that my skin felt more hydrated and supple.
Week 4–8
I just started waking up with a glow
This is where it turned. The dry, papery feel around my cheeks and nose simply wasn't there anymore, and I hadn't exfoliated once in five weeks. My skin looked brighter and plumped.

Week 8
Week 8–12
Smooth, plump and bright with nothing on it.
The bit I didn't expect: my skin was getting so smooth and radiant. No crepey texture and plumpness that actually lasted. My face reads as full and filled, rather than dull and flat.

Week 12
Why I tried Salmon DNA anyway
So I did what you're told to do: Grainy scrubs twice a week. Then glycolic pads, then a stronger acid toner, a microdermabrasion facial I couldn't really afford, which bought me two smooth days and a slow return to paper.
◆ What sold me on the idea
You can't exfoliate skin into being smooth. Smooth is what well-hydrated skin becomes
Exfoliation removes rough cells that are already dead — it reveals a smoother layer for a day or two, and then the same dryness produces the same roughness underneath.
Salmon DNA works a level underneath all of that. From what I understand it doesn't sit on the surface — it works at the cellular level, helping skin repair itself and build more collagen, so the skin's actual condition improves instead of its top layer being polished or coated.
What I liked, and what I didn't
No product review is honest without the second column, so here's mine.
Genuinely liked
The papery roughness around my cheeks and nose has faded.
Zero irritation. No purge, no peeling, no downtime.
I haven't exfoliated in three months and my skin is smoother than when I did it twice a week.
Bare, my face looks fuller and brighter. Highlighter and primer are gone.
It's four seconds. Lightweight, silky and fragrance free.
Didn't love
That first month tests your patience. There is nothing crazy to see.
It hasn't faded the sun patches on my cheekbones.
How much effort is it, honestly
Four seconds, morning or night. It's an ampoule, so it's thin and it sinks straight in.
What I actually did
1
Cleanse as normal.
2
Apply to all target areas — forehead, under eyes, cheeks, nose and neck.
3
My normal routine after; serums, vitamin c, moisturizer and SPF.
4
That's it. No ten-step ritual, it actually eliminated some products in my routine.
Is Salmon DNA worth your money?
It isn't magic, and I'd rather you hear that from me. My sun spots are still there. It hasn't touched those, and I don't think anything in a bottle will.
For a month it did nothing at all, and I felt stupid for buying it. But here I am, still using it and in love with it, which is the most honest endorsement I can give.
I won't pretend it's cheap, but it costs me less than the products it replaced. Give it the twelve weeks I gave it — three months is nothing set against the decade I spent settling. If your face tells you I'm right, you won't want to stop at twelve weeks. I'm six months in now and the bottle has a permanent spot in my routine.
The one I used
YURSLF PDRN Ampoule — 50,000 PPM, real salmon-derived PDRN
This is the exact product in my photos above. It takes is four seconds daily and it quietly replaced half my routine.

You can't sand skin into being smooth" stopped me cold. I have exfoliated twice a week for eleven years for a roughness that kept coming back, and it never once occurred to me that I was part of the cycle. Week 8, no acids, and my skin is smoother than it has been in a decade

Thank you for admitting the first month is boring. Every review promises week-one miracles and then I panic at day 10 assuming it's not working and stop. This set my expectations properly.

Thank you for being clear it isn't a brightener. I have melasma and I'd have been disappointed. Bought it for the dryness and texture instead — week 10, and my skin is smooth and holds moisture all day, which is what I actually wanted
