THE SKIN FILES

← Pick a different goal

Tired, dehydrated skin · Tried & tested

The mistake I made in my forties that cost me ten years of good skin.

I'm 57 with dry skin that had gone thin and papery, and I'd stopped believing anything in a bottle could change it. I decided to try Salmon DNA and this is my honest 12-week review including the month where nothing happened.

Week 0

Week 12

My own photos. Unretouched. I'm not a dermatologist and this is one person's experience — yours may differ.

The lines weren't really the problem. The problem was what my skin had turned into around them. Thin. Papery. Finely creased across the under-eye and along the outer cheek, like tissue paper someone had scrunched and flattened back out.

And it made everything else look worse. Concealer went on smooth at eight and by eleven it had gathered into little vertical lines under my eyes. Foundation sat in the creases beside my mouth instead of on my skin. I got very good checking my face in the car mirror at lunchtime.

Why I tried Salmon DNA anyway

I'd been through the obvious answers. Retinol, which my dry skin tolerated for about nine days at a time. Peptide serums. Eye creams at prices I'm embarrassed to type.

All of it hydrated the area for three hours and my skin was back to thin and papery. I decided this was just my face now.

◆ What sold me on the idea

Everything I'd been using worked on the surface

Everything else I tried only coats the top layer, pull in water, and make skin look plumper and calmer ONLY for a few hours.

Salmon DNA goes one level deeper. From what I understand, it doesn't sit on the surface at all — it works at the cellular level. So it helps your skin to repair itself and build more collagen, so the skin can actually improve, not just have a temporary glow.

What actually happened

Then I did the boring thing and took a photo every Sunday in the same light.

Week 1–2

Nothing to see — my patience is being tested

The texture is silky and soft. No stinging, no purge, no peeling at all. The only thing I noticed was that my skin felt more hydrated and supple.

Week 0

A close-up, front-facing portrait of a woman with blonde hair in an updo and green eyes.

Week 2

Week 4–8

My makeup stopped clinging, and the lines started smoothing out.

Foundation stopped grabbing at dry patches and settling into the lines around my mouth by lunchtime. My skin also stopped looking so papery and flat. It was starting to glow and I got my plumpness back.

Week 4

A close-up headshot of a smiling woman with short blonde hair and green eyes wearing a white shirt.

Week 8

A close-up headshot of a smiling woman with short blonde hair and green eyes looking at the camera.

Week 9–12

Awake, Plump & Glowing!

The bit I didn't expect: my skin was getting so smooth and radiant. No crepey texture and plumpness that actually lasted. Three people asked me what procedure I got done.

Week 9

Week 12

What I liked, and what I didn't

No product review is honest without the second column, so here's mine.

Genuinely liked

Replaced a number of products in my routine

Zero irritation. No purge, no peeling, no downtime.

Makeup stopped clinging to dry patches and settling into lines.

That thin and papery look genuinely went away.

It's four seconds. Lightweight, silky and fragrance free.

Didn't love

That first month tests your patience. There is nothing crazy to see.

I wish it came in a larger bottle

How much effort is it, honestly

Four seconds, morning or night. It's an ampoule, so it's thin and it sinks straight in.

What I actually did

1

Cleanse as normal.

2

Apply to all target areas — forehead, under eyes, cheeks, nose and neck.

3

My normal routine after; serums, vitamin c, moisturizer and SPF.

4

That's it. No ten-step ritual, it actually eliminated some products in my routine.

Where I've landed

It isn't magic, and I'd rather you hear that from me. My deeper lines are still deeper lines. It hasn't touched those, and I don't think anything in a bottle will.

For a month it did nothing at all, and I felt stupid for buying it. But here I am, still using it and in love with it, which is the most honest endorsement I can give.

Most of us quietly stop expecting smooth skin and start working around it instead. I'd give a lot to go back and start this in my forties rather than spend them settling. Stop accepting and give it the twelve weeks I gave it and let your own face tell you whether I'm right.

The one I used

YURSLF PDRN Ampoule — 50,000 PPM, real salmon-derived PDRN

This is the exact product in my photos above. It takes is four seconds daily, I dropped three products from my routine and I got that plump, glowy look back.

“More creams, serums" is exactly what I've been doing for years. Week 9 here, same goal, and my face is so much more plump. I almost skipped it because I'd written off hydrating products entirely. So glad I didn't.

Thank you for admitting the first month is boring. Every review promises week-one miracles and then I panic at day 10 assuming it's not working and stop. This set my expectations properly.

51, very reactive skin, zero irritation from this, which never happens to me. My skin looks smooth and lit up now rather than flat and crepey.
